level 1Understanding Your Project

Production

also: prod, production environment

The live version of your app that real users use. Changes here affect real people and real data right away.

a bit more technical

The environment that serves real users and holds real data. Changes reach production deliberately, usually after testing, because failures there cause outages, data loss or lost revenue. Often shortened to "prod".

picture it

Production is opening night with a paying audience. Rehearsals are over. If a light falls now, everybody sees it.

why it matters

Anything your agent does in production, like running a command or changing data, affects real customers. It's where you want the most caution and the most confirmation.

what your agent might say
agent
This command would delete rows from the production database. I won't run it without your explicit confirmation.
how you might use it
you → your agent
Don't run anything against production. Test the fix in staging first and tell me what you'll change before deploying.
common mistake

Thinking production is just the latest version of the code. It's the running copy real users depend on, with real data you can't recreate.
