level 1Understanding Your Project

Deployment

also: deploy, deploys, deployed, deploying, deployments

Getting a new version of your app live, so people can reach it and use it. Each time you deploy, users start getting the updated app.

a bit more technical

Releasing a built version of an application to an environment, typically production, so it serves users. It usually involves a build, uploading the result to a hosting platform, and switching traffic to the new version. Platforms like Vercel automate much of this.

picture it

Deployment is when the finished issue of a magazine reaches the newsstands. The editing happened earlier. Now readers can actually pick it up.

why it matters

Changes your agent makes don't reach users until they're deployed. Knowing that separates "it's done on my laptop" from "customers have it", and tells you when to be extra careful.

what your agent might say
agent
The fix is committed but not deployed yet. Once you push to main, Vercel will deploy it automatically in about two minutes.
how you might use it
you → your agent
Don't deploy this to production yet. Deploy to staging first, and give me a short checklist to test before it goes live.
common mistake

Thinking a change is live as soon as your agent says it's done. Until it's deployed, only your copy has it.
