Request
also: requests, api request, api call, api calls
A message a client sends to a server asking for something, like "send me today's bookings" or "save this order".
A message sent from a client to a server, usually over HTTP. It includes a method (such as GET or POST), a URL, headers carrying details like login tokens, and sometimes a body of data such as form contents.
A request is an order slip handed to the kitchen. It says what you want plus any details, like "no onions", and then you wait for what comes back.
Most app features are a request followed by a response. When your agent says "the request failed", you can ask the useful follow-ups: which request, what did it send, and what came back?
The request to /api/profile is missing the login token, so the server rejects it. I'll attach the token to every request.
When saving fails, log the request the page sends and the response it gets back, so we can see where it goes wrong.
Thinking a request means a feature request. Here it's a single message from the app to a server, and apps send many of them every minute.
