level 1Understanding Your Project

Endpoint

also: endpoints, api endpoint

A specific address on an API where your app can ask for one particular thing, like a list of orders or saving a new booking.

a bit more technical

A specific URL, usually combined with an HTTP method, where an API accepts requests for one operation. For example, GET /api/orders might list orders while POST /api/orders creates one. Each endpoint defines what it expects and what it returns.

picture it

If an API is a restaurant menu, each endpoint is one item on it. "Soup of the day" and "Caesar salad" are separate items, each with its own order and its own result.

why it matters

Agents build and fix features endpoint by endpoint. When something fails, knowing which endpoint is involved narrows the search from "the backend is broken" to one specific address.

what your agent might say
agent
I added a new endpoint, POST /api/bookings/cancel, which cancels a booking and emails the customer.
how you might use it
you → your agent
Create an endpoint that returns this week's orders for the dashboard. Only logged-in admins should be able to use it.
common mistake

Thinking an endpoint is a page on your website. A page is for people to look at. An endpoint is for programs to send and receive data.
