Folder

also: folders, directory, directories

A named container that holds files and other folders, so a project stays organized. Developers often call a folder a "directory".

a bit more technical

A directory in the file system that groups files and subdirectories. Projects use folder structure to organize code, and a file's location is written as a path, such as src/components/Button.tsx.

picture it

Folders are the drawers of a filing cabinet. Each drawer holds related documents, and some drawers have smaller dividers inside.

why it matters

Agents refer to locations like "the components folder" or "src/pages". Understanding folders helps you follow where things live and notice when your agent puts new code somewhere odd.

what your agent might say
agent
I created a new folder, src/emails, and moved the three email templates into it so they're easier to find.
how you might use it
you → your agent
Before adding new files, look at how the existing folders are organized and follow the same structure.
common mistake

Thinking "folder" and "directory" are different things. They are two names for the same thing; "directory" is just the more technical word.
