Pull request

also: pull requests, pr, prs, merge request

A request to merge one branch into another, with a page where the changes can be reviewed and discussed first.

a bit more technical

A feature of hosting services like GitHub that proposes merging a branch into a target branch. It shows the diff, the commits, and automated check results, and collects review comments and approvals before the merge. GitLab calls it a merge request.

picture it

Submitting a draft to an editor. They see every change you made, leave comments, and decide when it goes into the final edition.

why it matters

A pull request puts a review step between the agent's work and your live app. You see the diff, tests run automatically, and nothing merges without approval.

what your agent might say
agent
Opened PR #42: 'Add recurring bookings.' All checks pass. Please look closely at the changes to the payment code.
how you might use it
you → your agent
Open a pull request for this branch instead of merging it. In the description, list what changed, how you tested it, and anything risky.
common mistake

Thinking a pull request pulls code down to your computer. It's a request for the project to pull your changes in: a proposal to merge.
